ZIVA POSTEC. The editor behind the film Shoah
Documentary
2018
Photo direction: Elric Robichon
Synopsis
She devoted almost six years of her life to the editing of Shoah, the historical film by director Claude Lanzmann. Her name: Ziva Postec. This shadowy lacemaker gave herself to cinema to the point of obsession. From Jaffa, in Israel, today she shares her intimate memories linked to an extraordinary creative enterprise.
Associated with a cinematographic work that has profoundly changed our relationship with History, Ziva Postec is a little-known artist who devoted nearly six years of her life to the editing of Shoah. This epic film by Claude Lanzmann was to forever transform our understanding of the history of the extermination of European Jews during the Second World War. By delving into her personal memories, this shadowy lacemaker, “survivor” in her own way, opens up for the first time through a story where previously unseen images from the shoot resurface. Stakeholder to the point of obsession with an extraordinary creative enterprise, Ziva Postec reveals herself on camera as a true everyday heroine. Its strength of commitment and its luminosity contrast with the darkest days of humanity.
